Teaching Assistant

Job Title: Level 2 Teaching Assistant
Pay Rate: £90.97 – £92.86 per day
Location: Sheldon, Birmingham
Hours: 32.5 hours per week – term time only
 

Smart Education is seeking a committed and experienced Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Sheldon supporting primary-aged pupils with a range of physical, learning, and sensory difficulties.

About the Role

You will work closely with teaching staff to support the delivery of high-quality education, tailored to the needs of each pupil. Your role will include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis, both in class and on school visits

  • Providing personal care support in line with safeguarding and school policy

  • Assisting children with a variety of SEND, including:

    • Sensory and/or physical impairments

    • Cognition and learning difficulties

    • Behavioural, emotional and social development needs

    • Communication and interaction challenges

  • Supporting access to a personalised, engaging, and accessible curriculum

 

Responsibilities

Support for Pupils:

  • Help pupils engage with activities and learning experiences

  • Promote pupil wellbeing and encourage independence

  • Provide personalised support across curriculum and care needs

Support for the Teacher:

  • Assist with planning and evaluating learning activities

  • Support classroom organisation and behaviour management

  • Help maintain records and complete basic marking

  • Provide administrative support including photocopying and coursework preparation

Support for the School:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the setting

  • Contribute to the development of a safe and inclusive learning environment

  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and support school-wide initiatives

 

Requirements

  • Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)

  • Experience supporting children with SEND in a school setting

  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, adaptable mindset

  • Commitment to pupil safety, wellbeing, and development
